Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, We are very happy with the start of our in person instruction. Parents prepared students well with what they might be asked to do. Students have been cooperative at learning the safety protocols, and teachers are getting used to their new routine, quickly. If there is something that this pandemic has taught us is that it takes everyone doing their part to move forward. Our sixth graders are dropped off at the front of the school in the drop off circle. A change is that not all grades will be dropped off at the front of the school. After a recent district decision, we are ready for seventh graders to start on Monday, March 22nd, at 8:00 am. Seventh grade drop off and pick up is behind the cafeteria, on Magnolia Street. Parents, please pull up to the entrance to the parking lot and drop off on the sidewalk, then move on to keep the traffic moving. Then not Monday, but starting Wednesday, March 24th we are ready to welcome back our eighth grade students. Eighth grade drop off will be at the gate on the corner of Locus and Hazel. If you have several grade levels, just pick one of these drop off areas. Thank you for your attention to this. We have learned from other schools that if we only have one drop off traffic becomes a problem. We will be happy to have everyone back! BGMS is excited to announce the start of Soccer conditioning. Daniel Haley is the coach and is ready to start March 23rd. The start will be conditioning and skill work, no scrimmages yet, two days a week and then in April begin playing. Students can sign up by calling the main office and an athletic packet will be emailed to them. Just a reminder that only one sport at a time can be played. Also a very important message to parents; there will be a parent informational night about the sexual health education unit in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The unit will begin after Spring Break. As part of our Board Policy we will be reviewing the curriculum, and materials. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, There is no school tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday, March 15 and 16, teachers are preparing for students to return to in person instruction. All students have a schedule change that can be seen on Aeries Parent Portal by the end of the day tomorrow, Monday. Wednesday beginning at 8:00 am sixth graders will return to school. Parents are being asked to pre-screen their children before bringing them to school. In the mailing with report cards there was a page for parents, explaining how to pre-screen children at home. There is only one drop off point for students, that is at the front of the school using the drop off circle. Students will not be allowed to enter anywhere else on campus. Students dropped off anywhere else will be directed to walk to the front of the school to enter campus. All six grade students should bring their Chromebooks to school every day, and make sure they are charged at home, the night before. Students will be given a room number, when they arrive at 8:00 am. Students are dismissed from classes for the day at 12:00 noon. 7th and 8th graders will have a schedule change on Wednesday, but will remain in distance learning for this week. Ms. Munguia and M. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, I need to correct what I have been telling you for two weeks, with some decisions made at last night’s School Board meeting. All students will not change schedules on Monday, March 15th. Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will not have school on Monday or Tuesday of next week, at all. There will not be any in person, distance, synchronous, or asynchronous work. The teachers have been given two days to complete their preparations to return to in person instruction. Every student’s schedule will change on Wednesday, March 17. Also, we are excited because all sixth grade, RSP, and SDC students will return to in person instruction on campus on Wednesday, March 17th. These are students whose parents chose in person instruction for the rest of this school year. Distance learning students will start their new schedules on March 17th as well. These are students in grades 7 and 8, and all sixth graders whose parents selected distance learning as their mode of learning for the rest of the school year. Your student’s schedule will be in Aeries on Monday, March 15th, and they should receive an invite to their new teachers’ Google classrooms in their emails by Tuesday, March 16. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, Thank you to all parents who met with us this week to talk about our return to in person instruction. We appreciate hearing from our students’ adults about what their concerns are about both remaining in distance learning and returning in person. Please remember that student schedules will change at the beginning of next week regardless of whether we are back in person or not. You will be able to see these on the parent portal on Aeries, and students will receive invitations from their teachers to join their classes. Also, adults should know that our Sex Education is taught in Science classes right after Spring Break on April 12th for about three weeks. We are providing a Parent informational night about what is required to be taught in each grade level, and an opportunity for parents to opt out of this instruction. The information night will take place virtually next week on Thursday, March 18th, at 5:30 pm. The link for that meeting will be given to you next week. Grades for Trimester 2 will not be mailed until Thursday, March 11th. BGMS is starting sports again! We are beginning with conditioning for Softball. In April we will begin track, and Soccer. We must follow the CDPH guidelines. If students are interested, and want to sign up, send Mr. Moratti an email mattmoratti@willitsunified.com and he can sign them up, and send them an Athletic Clearance Packet with everything they will need for this year. Signups for Softball will continue next week, to March 12th, and conditioning will start March 15, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. There are several steps to follow before a student can be allowed to practice, so email Mr. Moratti right away if you are interested, or call the BGMS office. We had 7 Mendocino County Fair qualifiers, and 6 special award winners. I want to commend all of our students who entered the virtual Willits Science Fair. It was something new, you had to learn how to participate, and you did it! All primary contacts for BGMS 6th grade students will receive, in their email, information about our program for students returning to school for in-person instruction, tomorrow. Information for 7th and 8th grade students will be posted on the BGMS website. The date has not been set, but we need to hear from parents, guardians, and caregivers about how your child will complete the school year; return to in person learning, or remain in distance learning. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers, The Willits Science Fair is virtual this year and projects will be available for viewing this week on Wednesday and Thursday. The link is on the Willits Science Fair website. The WUSD School Board will have a special meeting this week to discuss bringing back students to in person instruction from TK to 6th grade. BGMS is asking every parent to save March 3rd at 5:30 pm for a virtual parent meeting to get information about students returning to in person school at BGMS. We are in the last two weeks of trimester 2. Parents should make sure that students know what work can be completed, made up, or redone for credit toward their grade for the trimester. Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians and Caregivers, We are excited to announce that all of our students are eligible for the free lunch program and as such the California Department of Social Services will be issuing Pandemic EBT cards for all of our students, to all of our families. These cards are to buy food. They are being distributed to the address in the WUSD database. If you have had any address changes from last year call our office as soon as possible so that we can update your information. If you do not have an address, call our office so that we can set up a pick up place for you. We had over 90 entries to our Acts of Kindness Padlet from students. It is exciting to know that 90 people befitted from acts of kindness in one week from students. Student Council members wanted to go into Social Studies classes and present noteworthy historical figures for Black History Month. They will be doing this throughout this week. There are four weeks left to Trimester 2. This week and next week are four day weeks, with Friday of this week and Monday of next week off for the Presidents Day Holiday.
