Hello BGMS Parents, Guardians and Caregivers,
Each year we have our 7th grade students take the Healthy Kids Survey. This survey is used to understand the student perception of campus climate and culture. We use the information when we create the School Safety Plan and any other plans or professional development around site climate and culture. The seventh graders will be taking this survey on Friday. If they have not already given, to you, the information they were given today to share, please ask them to show you the two pages now. One is a parent information letter and the other is a parent opt out form. There is a parent opt out form, even though the survey is completely anonymous and there is nothing identifying students individually in the survey. We encourage all of our 7th graders to take the survey so that we have their perspective in planning programs.

If families have traveled 120 miles or more the current CDC guideline is to quarantine for 7 days after travelling, and it is recommended that you take a test 3 to 5 days after you return. If it is negative students can return in 7 days. If you do not test students must stay out for 10 days, and continue to monitor for symptoms for 14 days. While the student is in quarantine, they must do the work assigned on the teacherās Google Classroom for each of their classes. Please call the office and let us know if you are in quarantine. We have had some students in person all year, and have not had any community spread at school. We want to continue to make it safe for everyone on site by being responsible and following the guidelines.

8 Things to Practice at Home Now for Classroom Safety when we Return to In-Person
Practice with masks
Make sure they understand that the mask must cover their mouth and nose.
Properly take it on and off without touching the cloth, by the ties or ear loops
Write their name with a permanent marker on their mask and store them in individual bags, when not being worn.
Talk to them about wearing masks at school all the time, except when they are eating at brunch time.
If you donāt already, get in the habit of washing masks daily.
Make a big deal out of handwashing
Talk to them about the five steps: wer, lather, scrub, rinse and dry.
Talk to them about scrubbing with soap and water for 20 seconds
Talk to them about when to wash their hands: After using the restroom, playing outside, coughing, sneezing or blowing their nose, before and after eating, and upon entering their home or school.
Reinforce these with regular reminders.
Hand Sanitizer
If they need to wash their hands and they do not have access to soap and water, they can use hand sanitizer.
A small amount of hand sanitizer and speak entirely over both hands then allow their hands to air-dry.
Hand sanitizer is never to be ingested, and small children need adult supervision to use it.
Start a morning symptom check
To prepare for what will be a school-day routine, take their temperature every morning and ask if they have a sore throat, cough, upset stomach, headache, or body aches.
When school starts a temperature of 100.4 or any of the above symptoms means you should keep your child home. Children need to stay home when sick until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine) and other symptoms have improved, and 10 days since the symptoms first appeared.
At school we will be asking students if they screened with an adult that morning.
Work on proper coughing, sneezing and nose-blowing
Remind them about the proper techniques with tissues
Practice coughing into an elbow for when there isnāt time to get a tissue and back away from anyone else whoās coughing, sneezing, or blowing their nose.
Be consistent about reinforcing these every time they, or you actually cough, sneeze, or blow your nose. With a little practice it will become second-nature.
Remind your child not to touch their face
Students should keep their hands away from their face, and mask.
Identify high touch surfaces
Consider making them part of the cleaning in your household by wiping down high-touch surfaces daily; doorknobs, light switch, handrails, etc. This will help them be more aware of common high-touch surfaces when they are at school.
Show what six feet looks like
Find a household item thatās about six feet long, and have them get used to imagining it as an example of social distancing. They can count their own steps from one end to the other to get a sense of the distance.
Ask them throughout the day what they think is six feet from them.
Talk to them about staying six feet apart, and wearing their mask when they are outside as well.
To help your child to get used to these habits, try these:
Role model the behavior.
Use videos available on line (and a BGMS Safety Website to come) .
Give positive reinforcement like a high five.
Offer small rewards like a few minutes of a favorite activity.
Consistently and gently remind them when they need to adjust their behavior.
Point out and praise when they are doing things correctly.
Parents Have Been Amazing - Message from the Principal
I want all of our parents and caregivers to know that during this past year you have done an amazing feat. Yes, they are your children, and finding yourself in a situation that was totally unplanned, you were able to provide the needed assistance to continue the learning process that in person school provides. This was something you may not have had previous knowledge about and your support and perseverance has been an amazing feat. I know that you have been uncertain about how to replace the routine for learning that schools provide. We understand that going from in person to a screen has proven to have many more limitations to instruction. The importance that the physical presence of a teacher can instill in their students does not seem to be possible with online learning. One of the biggest worries as a caregiver may be the social and emotional development of your children being affected by both the pandemic and distance learning at a much deeper level than we realize. Your work has been tireless and we appreciate the partnership.
Through all of this many of you have used the resources we have provided on our websites, and kept in close contract with teachers, and support personnel at school. You have built routines, provided creative activities for your children, to keep them learning, and used what community resources were available to keep students connected with their online classes. I applaud your efforts, and know that you did the best you could given the situation. Thank you, this would not have been possible without your help.

Good afternoon BGMS 8th grade parents!
Due to changes in our in-person learning schedule the administration of the PSAT 8/9 has been changed to Tuesday, March 23rd. Students should arrive on campus at 8am. The dropoff point for 8th grade is on the corner of Hazel and Locust. Students who will be returning to in-person learning and normally take the bus may ride the bus to and from the test. Doors to testing rooms will be locked at 8:15. The PSAT 8/9 is a 3 hour test plus breaks so students should be picked up between 11:45 and 12:00. Students should bring only water and a pencil. Chromebooks will be provided. If your student will no longer be taking the test please contact the BGMS office tomorrow morning.

BACK TO SCHOOL !!
